Francisca Miranda, a resident of Annus-Nuvem, was robbed of her gold ornaments, besides cash of Rs 50,000, all amounting to Rs 3.20 lakh, in her house on Friday morning. She was gagged and tied by the two miscreants before looting her house of cash and gold ornaments.
The incident occurred at around 11.30 am when Francisca was alone outside her house when two persons approached her posing as electricity department officials. “The duo asked me whether the locality had power last night and I replied saying that power was restored only at 6 in the morning. They then asked me to show the meter box and later told me to switch on the light button. As I was about to switch on the button, one of them caught hold of me and threw me down. The duo then gagged me and later tied my hands and legs to the bed”, she narrated.
The accused then ransacked the house cupboard and found Rs 50,000 which had been withdrawn from a bank for construction work of the house. They also laid their hands on gold ornaments worth Rs 2.70 lakh and left the place. Miranda managed to untie her legs and rush out of the house and raise an alarm.
District Police chief Vijai Singh rushed to Nuvem this evening to take stock of the situation. He told the media that the robbers took advantage of the isolated location of the house. “Probably, the accused persons were well versed with the topography of the area, the entry and exit routes. We are investigating the case based on the inputs collected by my officers”, he said.
