8 held for betting during India-SA Test match

PANJIM: The Porvorim Police arrested eight persons for allegedly accepting betting online when the third cricket Test match between India and South Africa was on, on Friday.

The police arrested Subhankar Pandey, Ankit Maurya  and Mohan Kumar Rai, all natives of Uttar Pradesh; Navin Jain and Deepak Dang of Delhi; Suraj Shah of East Delhi, Gauttam Kumar Jha of East Bengal and Jaidev Devrama of Tripura.

The police also seized 40 mobile phone handsets, three laptops, WiFi routers and other materials, all amounting to Rs 10 lakh. 

On receiving credible information about illegal betting, the police conducted a raid on a house situated in the Defence Colony, Porvorim and arrested the accused.
