80 schools in Goa to have multidisciplinary AI labs

PANJIM: As many as 80 schools in Goa will soon be having specialised multi-disciplinary Artificial Intelligence (AI) labs.

The AI labs will be equipped with kits ranging from advanced robotics to Smart City and smart agriculture to space exploration. The AI labs have been proposed for use by grades 1 to 12.

According to sources, the multidisciplinary kits in the labs will include advance robotics, AI Bionic Arm, space exploration, vision visual, voice interaction, satellite communication, weather station, smart health, smart agriculture and a smart city kit comprising of diverse array of sensors, displays, controllers, and sophisticated data processing mechanisms. The labs will be set up using the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division (MPLAD) funds.

As per the plan, a comprehensive teaching and learning platform, accessible through a web application with provision for a minimum of 32 learning sessions.

In June last year, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) announced the introduction of AI as an additional subject from Class IX onwards. The AI was supposed to be implemented in all schools which did not offer NSDF subjects. However, a month later the Board decided to keep on hold the decision to offer AI as an optional subject for Class IX students from the academic year 2023-24.
