9 road stretches in Panjim will be closed for President’s visit on Liberation Day

panjim: At least nine road stretches in the capital city will be closed on December 19, Saturday in the wake of the visit of President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

The Traffic Department has also arranged diversion of vehicular traffic from KTC bus stand owing to the President’s presence at events scheduled at Azad Maidan and D B Bandokar ground.  

The roads which will be restricted /closed for the movement of vehicles includes M G Road from near Directorate of Accounts to Casa Dempo,  DBB Marg from Bandodkar Statue to Campal Ganesh,  Campal  Ganesh to NIO Circle to Raj  Bhavan,  lane from Cecol Bar to Real Agency, lane from Udyog  Bhavan to Varsha  Book stall,  lane from ferry wharf to Mishra  Pedha,  the stretch from Printing Press junction to Govinda building (MG Road)  to Hero Honda showroom (P Shirgaonkar road) to Misra  Pasha (Menezes Braganza Road)  to Printing Press junction (Dr Pissurlekar Road) , entry from fire brigade towards Campal Ground  and all the side lanes connecting Azad Maidan and the said road  stretches will also be closed.  

A press release issued by the Traffic Department also informs that all vehicles including route buses coming from KTC side to enter Panjim or to proceed to Miramar /Dona Paula will be diverted near Bandodkar Statue to proceed via Jose Falcao Road – Church Square – AB Road – Hotel Palacio de Goa – St Inez Junction (compulsory left)  – St Inez Church – Fire Brigade junction – Hotel Goa International – Adarsh Circle – Old Caranzalem Road.  

Likewise,  all vehicles coming from Miramar/ Dona Paula side will be diverted at Aivao  junction to proceed via Old Caranzalem Road -Adarsh  Circle – Hotel Goa International – Fire Brigade junction – St Inez junction – 18 June Road  – Commerce Point – Custom House Junction – DBB Marg.  

The traffic police have also said that once the function at Azad Maidan concludes and the VVIP reaches Bandodkar Football ground, the vehicles coming from KTC bus stand side will be allowed to come till Kala Academy junction to proceed via St Inez junction, while the vehicles coming from Dona Paula/Taleigao side after reaching St Inez junction will be allowed to take left and proceed to DBB Marg via Kala Academy Junction.  

The department has urged the citizens to cooperate with the police and to avoid parking their vehicles on the VVIP route as well as other roads mentioned in the plan for security reasons.  

Similarly, residents living on the VVIP route are urged to plan their journey accordingly.
