Aadhaar link to Voter ID: BLOs start visiting Salcete houses

MARGAO: As a part of nationwide drive to link Aadhaar details with the Voter Identity Card, the District Election Officers (DEOs)

designated for the Salcete Taluka are in a full swing to complete the mission, and now the Block Level Officers (BLOs) have also started visiting the houses too. 

Laximkant Desai, Mamlatdar for Salcete told Herald that the drive to link Aadhaar details with the voter identity card began last week and they are getting good response from the citizens. 

It is pertinent to note that the State Election Commission has made it clear that linking submission of Aadhaar number form 6B is voluntary and that voters’ IDs will not be cancelled if the EPIC is not linked to the Aadhaar number. 

Mamlatdar said that at the special meeting held a few days ago all the directions and instructions were given to the BLOs and other concerned officials to target the maximum number to link Aadhaar details with the voter ID. 

“Now, the BLOs have started visiting the households and they will be on the field even on Saturday and Sundays. We have already linked nearly 1,200 Aadhaar details to voter ID in Fatorda Constituency itself in the last one week of time period,” informed Mamlatdar Desai. 

“In Navelim Constituency too, nearly 2000 have linked their Aadhaar number to the voter ID in the last few days of the time period,” informed Dhiren Banaulikar, Mamlatdar-2, Salcete. 

“The BLOs have started visiting the households since last Saturday and creating awareness amongst the voters pertaining to linking of Aadhaar card to Voter Identity Card. As per the instructions of the Election Commission,10 days have been given to the BLOs to create maximum awareness in this regard,” he informed. 

He further informed that many citizens have themselves uploaded the information in an online mode.
