PANJIM: Atishi Singh, the newly-elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Delhi and Goa-in-charge, has said that there is an urgent need to deliver services at the grassroot level and has asked Goans to stand by AAP in the upcoming Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections. On Monday, AAP Goa Convener Elvis Gomes announced the names of 9 candidates in South Goa, which included Rudolfina Vaz a well-known comedy actor in tiatr who will contest from Guirdolim constituency. The other candidates are Sidharth Patil from Sanvordem, Matilda D’Silva from Navelim, Brinda Minguelina Silva from Curtorim, Marcelina Colaco from Nuvem, Dinesh Borkar from Borim, Pobres Vaz from Cortalim and Sandip Naik from Rivona.
While pointing out that Goa is the only State that has not devolved any powers or functions to the ZPs; Atishi said that AAP asked the people to back AAP this time, which she said will work differently from Congress and BJP.
She added that AAP’s success in Delhi was due to its ability to deliver services to the grass roots. “We changed the education system and government schools by keeping in touch with the parents through the parent teacher associations and the difference is there for all to see,” she said.
“There has to be monitoring and accountability at the grassroot level, which is not happening in Goa and that is why the District Hospital is still under construction for so many years,” she said while admitting that the ZP elections is a run-up for the party for the Assembly elections due in two years.
