PANJIM: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Wednesday condemned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for the rampant breakdown of law and order in the State.
AAP in a press statement said, “The State has seen an uptake in cases right from chain snatching to sexual harassment to shootouts. While the Goa Police have been able to commendably solve high profile cases like the Vasco shootout and baby snatching at Goa Medical College, the Home Ministry seems unwilling to take Goan security seriously. To add fuel to the fire, lack of action against a few officers responsible for police brutality shaking the common Goan’s faith”.
“Recently two chain snatching incidents has left a fear of dread in the minds of the Goan women which were reported from the Aquem area with the miscreants managing to make good with a chain of a woman in broad daylight, while snatching the chain on the bike the lady fell down with a force and succumbed to multiple injuries”, AAP added.
“Verna police officials have been accused of harassing three members of a family who then committed suicide. A slow pace on this investigation will impact Goans confidence in the force”, AAP stated.
The party further said that the CM Sawant, who is also the home minister, has not condemned these crimes taking place in the State for the past few weeks. The crime rate in Goa has increased in the recent years under the BJP rule especially during this ongoing pandemic. Yet our chief minister has turned a blind eye.
AAP convenor Rahul Mhambre said, “We strongly condemn all these recent attacks on Goans and while the Goa Police have been doing a good job the home minister needs to put in little more efforts to solve and handle such issues in attacks and crime scene in Goa”.
