The FSSAI had on Wednesday said it had not given a clean bill of health on the safety of Maggi noodles and that the Goa test reports would not have any bearing on the all India recall that was ordered for in June.
The AAP had in the past questioned the findings of the FDA in saying the test results were within the permissible limits of MSG and lead. The party had questioned the methodology, samples, equipment and expertise with which the testing had been done.
“We did this not for any other reason but that the FDA is the guardian of our health when it comes to food and drugs that we consume. The Maggi case was just a test of whether the Goa FDA is following the appropriate procedures and taking the right decisions when it comes to making sure that food items and medicines being sold in the market are safe for consumption,” said AAP secretary Valmiki Naik.
He added that the party was vindicated by the FSSAI findings that “confirmed that the Goa testing was faulty, and the clean chit should Not have been issued.”
The party has also said they hoped the Goa FDA would go beyond just issuing a FSSAI number on the payment of fees and would focus on testing and certifying products seriously.
