MARGAO: Benaulim constituency has once again proved to be lucky for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as the party opened its account in the State Legislative Assembly elections with the victory of Captain Venzy Viegas.
At the same time, party’s another candidate Cruz Silva managed to give the party a second win after a close battle in the 2017 elections.

It is pertinent to note that AAP had opened the first account in Zilla Panchayat elections with Hanzel Fernandes winning from Benaulim constituency. And now, Capt. Venzy defeated Salcete political heavyweight Churchill Alemao.
The people of Benaulim, mostly the youth, backed Venzy before the State Assembly elections were announced. A clash was also witnessed in the past between AAP and Churchill supporters. On Thursday, Venzy defeated Churchill by 1,271 votes.
AAP candidate Cruz Silva defeated big political leaders such as Filipe Nery Rodrigues (NCP), Savio D’Silva (Congress), and former MLA Benjamin Silva (TMC).
In the 2017 election, Cruz managed to get 3423 votes, and came in third position behind Benjamin Silva.
