PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday returned the taps to the Public Works Department protesting the government’s failure to provide drinking water to the people from Sattari Taluka.

AAP leader Vishwesh Prabhu led the residents of Majik Vaddo (Budruk Karmali) to the Sattari Deputy Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum to resolve the issue.

Vishwesh lamented that for 35 years now people are not receiving piped water even though the place has been represented by the senior and junior Ranes of the Congress and BJP.

“What is the point of having taps in the houses when there is no water in the pipes and that is why we returned the taps,” said Vishwesh.

He pointed out that the area does not appear to be part of Goa as most of the people till date do not have toilets and defecate in the open. “There are no streetlights and people live in darkness,” he said adding that even roads are literally non-existent.

He said that the people have to walk miles for water as the only well in the village has not been cleaned for years making its water unusable.

Vishwesh said copies of the memorandum would be submitted to the Chief Minister and Governor.
