PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday slammed the government over spike in COVID-19 deaths and also criticised the State for marginally reducing the exorbitant rates of treatment at private hospitals.

“Over the past few weeks we have seen a rapid increase in the number of cases without any increase in the number of testing. The trend studied by us from July 26 to September 19 shows clearly that average number of testing per day has remained the same while the average number of COVID-19 positive cases per day has increased 2.5 times. It means that positivity rate is increasing rapidly,” party convener Rahul Mhambre said at a press conference on Thursday.
He further said that within a span of eight weeks the active cases has risen more than three times from 1652 to 5408 whereas COVID-19 deaths reported last week are almost four times to what they were in the last week of July. “From 15 deaths reported in the last week of July to 56 deaths in the previous week of September which ended on September 19,” he said.
The party has been demanding increase in the number of testing to 5000 per day so as to trace and isolate patients timely and stop the spread.
AAP has also criticised the government for marginally reducing the exorbitant rates of treatment at private hospitals.
