AAP threatens indefinite protest over disputed power bills

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday warned of an indefinite sit-in protest if the govern ment fails to issue an offi cial order waiving disputed electricity bills by Monday. AAP Organisational Sec retary Prashant Naik, South Goa Youth Wing President Neash Coutinho and res idents from Margao and Navelim staged a protest outside the Margao Power House, demanding relief for consumers who received allegedly inflated bills be tween January and June 15. While Electricity De partment officials have reportedly said excess billing would be corrected through revised bills, AAP rejected the move and de manded a complete waiver, claiming many consumers had already paid the dis puted amounts by borrow ing money or using savings.

Naik said revised bills would not address the fi nancial hardship faced by affected families and alleged that consumers had been burdened with unnecessary charges and penalties. AAP has given the depart ment until Monday to issue a waiver order, failing which it will launch an indefinite pro test outside the department with participation from res idents and party workers across Margao taluka. Coutinho accused the government of failing to act despite repeated complaints and said the party would continue its agitation until disputed bills are waived and refunds provided to those who have already paid.
