Abandoned vehicles to be auctioned in Calangute

CALANGUTE: With owners not coming forward to claim their vehicles which have been impounded by the Calangute panchayat, the civic body has now decided to auction eight four-wheelers which had been seized after it started a drive in April.

After the issue had been highlighted in gram sabhas, the Calangute panchayat had issued a public notice in February warning the owners of abandoned vehicles to remove them before the end of the month failing which the panchayat would confiscate/attach the vehicles as it was creating a public nuisance. But despite the notice, none of the vehicles were removed by the owners. The last public notice was published in August.

The seized vehicles have been kept at the Bhodkovodd junction circle. With the owners not claiming them and the panchayat having no space to keep more vehicles it had decided to auction them and interested parties have to submit their bids by October 24.
