MAPUSA: Bijapur police have arrested Mapusa businessman Tarak Manguesh Arolkar, who had complained that he was abducted, for cheating a local of Rs 15 lakh on the pretext of selling him a ‘rice pulley’.
On Monday, Arolkar had complained to Mapusa police that eight unknown persons had abducted him to Nipani in Bijapur and assaulted him there. However, he had said he managed to escape from his abductors.
However, Bijapur resident Mohammad Yusuf Naziraraham Jamudar complained that three months ago when he had come to Goa, he met Arolkar and became friends with the latter. And during an interaction, Arolkar told Jamudar that he has ‘rice pulleys’ which bring in prosperity.
Excited at the prospect of becoming rich, Jamudar offered to buy a ‘rice pulley’ from Arolkar for Rs 50 lakh and as first instalment, Jamudar paid Rs 15 lakh to Arolkar and agreed to pay the balance amount at the time of delivery.
On September 17, when Arolkar went to Bijapur to deliver the ‘rice pulley’, Jamudar become suspicious and asked Arolkar to open the box and show the ‘rice pulley’. Subsequently, when Jamudar demanded repayment of his money, Arolkar took out a pistol and demanded the balance of Rs 35 lakh at gun point.
Meanwhile, a Bijapur police team headed by ASI Mugdam and Mapusa police team raided Arolkar’s house at Moira and seized some important documents. Arolkar is currently in the custody of Bijapur police.
