VASCO: After turning a blind eye to illegal and unauthorised gaddas mushrooming in Sancoale and especially in Zuarinagar and Zhari slums, the panchayat authorities have now decided to crack a whip against all unauthorised and illegal gaddas.
According to the information, aggrieved and annoyed at the panchayat authorities turning blind eye to the mushrooming of illegal gaddas (kiosks) in the village, some concerned villagers on Thursday met the panchayat authorities and grilled them on the issue. They questioned them why they have not taken action against the illegal gaddas in the village and how the illegal gaddas were allowed to cover all sides including frontage of the public bus stops all along the road from Zhari in Zuarinagar to Birla Zuarinagar.
“Today we met the Sarpanch Girish Pillai and questioned him why the panchayat failed to act against the illegal gaddas in the village. We also brought to his notice by showing pictures about the blocking of bus stops by the illegal gaddas. We informed him that illegal gaddas are placed at most of the bus stops in the village which in turn disrupts smooth flow of traffic, besides that these gaddas also make the area dirty,” said Suresh Naik, a villager.
After hearing the citizens, Sarpanch Pillai assured that the panchayat would take strict action against all illegal gaddas on priority.
“We received complaints that illegal gaddas selling vegetables and other items as well as other kiosks selling fast food items have increased in the village. As these gaddas are operating without any permission from the panchayat, we have decided to crack a whip against illegal gaddas on priority. The complaints are genuine and action as per law will be initiated,” Pillai told Herald.
