PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar be sacked for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets and his alleged involvement in matka gambling.
“He should be sacked by the President of the Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi over serious criminal and corruption charges. If not, Babu should resign on moral grounds,” BJP leader Dattaprasad Naik said, addressing a press conference on Thursday.
Naik referred to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) investigation wherein Kavlekar is said to be possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The BJP leader charged the Congress MLA of hiding facts in the affidavit filed along with nomination papers before the Election Commission of India.
Kavlekar also faces allegations of being involved in matka gambling following thousands of matka slips recovered from his bungalow on Wednesday.
“He has no moral right to continue as Leader of the Opposition,” Naik stated, alleging that several Congress MLAs are involved in various illegal activities.
