PANJIM: Special Court North Goa granted police four days custody of Goa University executive engineer Amit Srivastava who was arrested by Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 on Thursday.
Srivastava has moved an application for bail in the court. After hearing the matter on Friday, the court reserved its order for Saturday.
Srivastava was arrested for accepting a bribe from a staff of the housekeeping firm Panorama Enterprises owned by Hema Sundar Reddy.
According to the complaint, the executive engineer was demanding five percent of the total value of the work awarded to the housekeeping firm of Goa University campus buildings. Reddy had bagged the work for an amount of Rs 50,00,584 per annum in July, 2017.
The complainant said that since Amit Srivastava continued to harass the owner of the firm to pay the bribe amount, from the month of July 2017, the amount was negotiated to Rs 50,000.
PI Francisco Corte is investigating the case under the supervision of SP Priyanka Kashyap (IPS). Srivastava is charged with section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
