Accused get lifer

MARGAO: The South Goa Additional Sessions Court on Tuesday sentenced the accused in the murder of marine engineer Anand Pal to life imprisonment. Lalsa Pal, wife of Anand Pal, and her paramour Kaushalya Kumar have also been fined Rs 10,000 and have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two months.

Kumar and Lalsa were convicted on June 5 for the murder of the marine engineer on July 16, 2011. Public Prosecutor Subhash Dessai had prayed for stringent sentence to the convicts.
The defence sought leniency as Lalsa has two children and needs to take care of them. They also asked for a set off for the period for which Lalsa and Kumar were in jail. They were arrested on July 16, 2011 and have been in jail since then. On June 5, 2015 both were convicted for murder by the Additional Sessions Judge P V Savaikar.
Strong scientific and circumstantial evidence was found against the two. The duo had mercilessly killed Anand and it was proved in court that the offence was deliberate and premeditated.
