PANJIM: Congress party in Goa has castigated the NDA government for its alleged attempts to trigger communal polarization and create fear psychosis in the country through a series of anti-minority statements.
At a press conference at Congress House, Monday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro reeled off the names of BJP and its Hindu right wing leaders, who, he said, have been continuously attacking the minorities in the recent past.
“The party condemns all attempts to polarize the nation. We will not tolerate the onslaught on the (Indian) Constitution. The BJP is creating an atmosphere of fear psychosis,” he alleged.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s controversial article in the party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ asserting that voting rights of Muslims should be withdrawn to end vote bank politics has been severely criticized by the Opposition.
Citing various such comments, Faleiro said that BJP’s Bihar politician Giriraj Singh’s statement that Muslims should be sent to Pakistan, VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi calling Mahatma Gandhi a British agent and claiming that India’s freedom was ‘not won by spinning the charkha’ and the Modi-government’s Ghar Wapsi campaign, are all ‘systematic attempts’ to throw the minorities out.
He went on to state that attacks on churches and nuns, in addition to attacks on convents in the State, are also attempts to destroy the minorities.
Taking a dig at BJP’s manifesto for development and progress, the GPCC chief alleged the Centre has been acting in a contradictory manner. “When BJP went into the last election (Lok Sabha), its agenda was development and progress. Its campaign was ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.’ But this has proven to be ‘Sabka Ghaat Sabka Satyanash,’” he commented, urging people not to fall prey to the ‘hidden agenda’ of the BJP and its allies.
