PANJIM: In a bizarre accident, a Toyota Innova car rammed into three houses, while hurtling down the Altinho slope, after the driver lost control. The four other occupants of the car, all aged between 21 and 35, were returning from a “movie” early Monday morning. All five occupants of the car and the inmates of the three houses were unhurt.
Panjim police said the car with registration number GA-07-K-7272 which had a Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation tag on the number plate, crashed into the houses at about 3.35am resulting in a loss of over Rs 1 lakh.
Sources said some of the youth have their parents working in government service, due to which the GSIDC car was used to go for the movie.
Interestingly, one of the houses belongs to a police inspector.
Driver Somnath Madar (35), and the four youth Shailesh Vishwakarma (25) hailing from St Inez, Gopal Marti (23) from Ramnagar, Vishal Shaha (21) from Malim-Betim and Shweta Usgaonkar (25), a resident of Altinho were returning after watching the last movie screening at Inox, police said.
Prima facie, the police have ruled out that the driver was drunk at the time of the accident.
“They were going to drop Shailesh enroute Altinho when the driver lost control after an oncoming car flashed its high beam,” the police said, quoting the driver. However, an FIR was registered following complaints from the house owners.
The car was removed after more than 12 hours.
