MARGAO: ‘Konknni Non-Stop Tiatristanchi Sonstha’ (KNTS) on Tuesday celebrated the feast of St Cecilia, the Patron of Artistes and pledged to prepare an action plan for overall development of the tiatr and tiatrists.
The action plan also includes overcoming the shortfall of not having a dedicated auditorium for staging tiatrs.
KNTS has also planned to chalk out the future course plan of action in the next couple of days anda joint special meeting has been called.
to deliberate on the related issues. Several senior tiatrists, who are not part of the KNTS, have also been invited.
On Tuesday morning a special Eucharistic Mass was held at Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim to mark the feast of St Cecilia, wherein artistes from non-stop tiatr groups participated. Several musicians from Salcete performed on the feast day.
It is believed that the patron saint of performing artistes, actors and musicians is St Cecilia. Tiatrists always invoke God’s blessings each time they embark on any tiatr assignment.
Pascoal de Chicalim, tiatrist and Secretary of the newly-elected KNTS committee told Herald that they have pledged to work out an action plan for overall development of the Konkani non-stop tiatr and tiatr in general.
“There are several issues which need to be resolved at the earliest, especially the non-stop tiatr ones. We want to reach out to the youth to attract them towards the non-stop tiatr,” he said.
He said soon a joint meeting will be held wherein several senior tiatrists have been invited to deliberate on the issue pertaining to the tiatrists.
“KNTS has also planned to stage non-stop shows and musical shows in coming days,” said Pascoal.
Arnaldo Costa, KNTS president, told Herald that the aim of the new committee will be to revive the non-stop tiatr and tiatrs, besides drawing the government’s attention with regard to the hardship faced by the directors/producers to present the tiatr/non-stop tiatr shows.
“At the moment the tiatr fraternity is facing a tough time due to non-availability of the auditoriums, and hence we will be submitting a memorandum to the government seeking urgent attention towards the issue”, he informed.
He said to revive the tiatr to its originality, all tiatr directors need to put full stop the vulgar comedy and songs.
Senior tiatrist and KNTS founder president Roseferns said it is high time that the younger generation should take up the responsibilities on their shoulders to take forward the legacy of non-stop tiatr and tiatr.
“The originality of the non-stop and also of tiatr format needs to be maintained,” he urged.
