CALANGUTE: The Calangute police are investigating a suspected case of drug overdose which came to light following an attempt to hush up the incident by a doctor from Varanasi allegedly in connivance with a local doctor.
According to information, on November 19, a couple from North India checked into a high-end hotel in coastal North Goa and the same night they partied at a nightclub at Anjuna. After they returned to the hotel, the couple did not come out of the room the next day except for the man, who emerged for a few minutes and then went back into the room.

He then noticed the woman lying in a pool of blood and sinking and immediately took her to the Primary Health Centre at Candolim. The doctor at the PHC also found her condition serious and according to information purportedly referred her to a private hospital in a government ambulance.
The matter was reported to the Calangute police on November 20 late at night. The police visited the hotel room and found several syringes in the room and suspected it to be a case of an overdose of drugs. When questioned, the heart surgeon from Varanasi could not give satisfactory replies to the police, whose suspicion grew and they managed to scan her Facebook account and reached out to her friends to get her address.
The police revealed that the doctor hailed from Varanasi and is married and had arrived in Goa with a spinster from Delhi. The police contacted the woman’s family, who too reached Goa on Tuesday.
The police are also investigating the role of the government doctor, who referred the patient to a private hospital. Meanwhile, the woman is battling for her life and is on a ventilator, the police said.
