PANJIM: A muscular ‘Mohawk’ bouncer with markedly African origins, who is said to be attached to a hotel in Betim, has been accused of assaulting and molesting a woman, and threatening her sister on Monday morning, even as the Porvorim police appeared reluctant to take action in the case.
The aggrieved citizens and the victims were, therefore, forced to seek North Goa Superintendent of Police Priyanka Kashyap’s  intervention in the case. Kashyap is said to have assured that action would be taken.
In the complaint, the woman stated that she was working at a housing society, when the accused allegedly caught hold of her and assaulted her. When her younger sister rushed to her rescue, she was allegedly threatened by the accused.
Two members of the housing society accompanied the traumatised women to the police station to register a complaint, but the Porvorim police were reluctant to take strong action in the matter even as the government has been touting strong action in crimes against women and zero tolerance for non filing of cases..
‘Bouncers’ as well as persons of African origin have been in the limelight for a variety of unsavoury incidents in the recent past, with their involvement in the drug trade especially along the coastal belt coming to the fore.
