ANJUNA: Nearly 48 hours after the reported attack on journalists, the Anjuna Police on Monday finally identified the trio including the main accused, who has a criminal history.
The Anjuna Police provided name of the trio as Antonio Menino Fernandes and Alex Cavin Fernandes, both residents of St Anthony Praias Vaddo, Anjuna and Norman Oswin Pinto, a resident of Acoi Vaddo, Kamarkhazan, Mapusa.
It is surprising that it took 48 hours for the police to identify the trio even after the reporters had submitted video evidence clearly showing their faces.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that Antonio Menino Fernandes, the main accused, has moved for anticipatory bail in the Special Sessions Court, Mapusa.
It may be recalled that on Saturday at around 6.20 pm when the two reporters after meeting the residents of St Anthony Praias Vaddo in Anjuna, on their return, the trio first stopped the journalist of Goenkarponn and questioned him why he had clicked the photos of the bar and the hotel. They further threatened him saying they (trio) know him and would come to his house and that he be prepared for dire consequences.
When the Herald reporter started shooting their video threatening the journalist, they (trio) moved towards her, abused her and further threatened her. Later, the two reporters rushed to the Anjuna Police Station and lodged an FIR against the trio.
The complaint was lodged against three unknown accused persons who were in their 50s, have tattoos on their bodies and rough looking. Sources said that one of the accused people is a history-sheeter and is out on bail.
When the reporters were covering the news report, the three persons were standing at the entrance of the bar and restaurant and appeared to be waiting for the journalists to leave before accosting them.
In this connection, the Anjuna Police registered an offence against the three persons.
