PANJIM: The expenditure finance committee (EFC) on Thursday cleared eight works and 10 other files after Power Minister Nilesh Cabral expressed his displeasure at the finance department for refusing to sanction his electrical infrastructure upgradation works.
Cabral said that the expenditure finance committee (EFC) headed by the Chief Secretary Parimal Rai cleared as many as eight works for tendering process while, Goa State Works Board in its meeting approved 10 works for granting expenditure sanction. The Goa State Works Board is also headed by the chief secretary.
Cabral said that though the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has convened a meeting on Thursday to discuss his issues, the same could not be held as the chief minister was busy due to visit of BJP national leaders. “We could not meet today due to the busy schedule,” he said.
On Tuesday, the power minister had expressed his anguish at the Finance Department for refusing to sanction electrical infrastructure works submitted by the Electricity Department.
Cabral had said though all estimates were prepared the Finance Department was not clearing the files. Even the files related to the work of underground cabling were held up. The Finance Department headed by the chief minister is curtailing expenditure on important projects, he had said adding that he was ready to arrange funds if the government was not in a position to sanction funds.
The power minister had demanded a joint meeting with the officials of the finance and power department to sort out the issues so as to work and deliver the goods.
Cabral had also expressed his displeasure at the remarks put by the finance department that the proposed amount was not as per the vote on account.
Cabral had demanded that the department should be given a free hand to work for the people.
