After initial refusal, suture was given to patient at Hospicio: Probe
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JULY 21
Preliminary inquiry conducted by Hospicio authorities has revealed that the medical staff had indeed asked a patient to procure a round body suture from the market.
However, the inquiry carried out by Acting Medical superintendent, Dr Nasnodkar has found that a nurse on duty later made available a suture from the hospital store.
The inquiry was conducted following orders by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat after the patient from Shiroda complained that the doctor on duty had asked his family to buy a suture from outside and was initially refusing to admit him in the hospital.
The preliminary inquiry report, which will be submitted to the Chief Minister later this week, pointed out that the doctor on duty had only asked the patient to get himself admitted at the Primary Health Centre, Shiroda, from where he was referred to Hospicio.
Sources in the know said Hospicio has enough suture stock in the hospital and it was only in exceptional cases that patients are told to buy sutures from outside if not available in the store. “The round body suture was not available in the hospital when the patient was being treated by the doctor. The relatives of the patient were told to get the suture from outside, but a hospital nurse found the round body suture”, a doctor informed.
The non-availability of a suture had kicked up a row of sorts as the incident occurred at a time when the Chief Minister promised to make Hospicio hospital the best managed hospital in the state of Goa.
