VASCO: Within a fortnight of announcing good news for birthday boy Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Chief Minister has yet again announced some good news for Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on his birthday on Sunday.
But both the birthday boys are unaware of what the birthday gift is.
On the birthday of Lobo on June 18, Sawant had made a similar statement.
“Amonkar, who switched over from Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is my close friend and what he wants he will get from my side. As of now, I can only say that I will try my best to give him the good news that people from Mormugao constituency are expecting,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister justified why Amonkar had joined the BJP and said that people should support him in the 2027 Assembly elections, hinting he would be BJP’s Mormugao candidate. He also assured the Mormugao constituents that significant developments were on the horizon.
“Sankalp has not asked anything for himself when he joined the BJP, but all he asked was the development of his constituency and the well-being of his people. The dream he had seen will be completed within remaining tenure of three years,” said Sawant.
The Chief Minister said that Amonkar’s birthday celebrations were marked by enthusiasm, reminiscent of the 50th wedding anniversary of his parents two days before his birthday.
