After three decades, Ambe-Dhulai villagers’ dream of footbridge fullfilled

PANJIM: The dream of Ambe-Dhulai villagers in Dharbandora Taluka has been  fulfilled with the opening of a footbridge to commute, on Friday.

For the last three decades, the villagers had been demanding construction of a footbridge as they had to use small boats to cross the 200-metre river to reach Dabhal village even as most of the villages had better road connectivity. The students in particular use to face a lot of difficulties to cross the river risking their lives during monsoon.

Many a times, the villagers of Ambe-Dhulai had to travel seven kilometres to reach Dabhal for various works. Ambe-Dhlai is situated six kilometres from Dharbandora.

It is learnt that the Ambe-Dhulai village had a tag “Village of Bachelors” as young girls used to turn down marriage proposals from village boys only because the village had no road connectivity and it scared them thinking that they would face hardships.

The work of constructing footbridge commenced in 2018 after then PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar laid the foundation stone. But the work was stopped due to COVID-19 pandemic and was expedited a few months back and was thrown open to public on Friday.

The villagers have expressed a sigh of relief for inaugurating the footbridge before the onset of monsoon.
