CORTALIM, OCT 12
A total of 137 cases, decided in favour of the government which, were attended by the Advocate General of Goa Subodh Kantak during the period 2005 to 2009.
According to the information available, 441 cases were filed against the government during the said period. While 137 cases were decided in favour of the government, only 19 cases were decided against the government, 94 were disposed/dismissed as they were withdrawn by the parties and 191 cases were otherwise disposed of.
An official from the law department confirmed that the statistics prove that the Advocate General had succeeded in getting favourable judgments for the government in almost 90 percent of effective cases.
In fact, these figures run counter to the allegations made against the Advocate General by the Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar in the assembly and other fora, wherein he cast doubts on the eligibility of the Advocate General in the appearing for the government.
The details were also provided in the LAQ tabled by Parrikar in the Assembly.
