Agency owner held for not paying PF dues

PANJIM: Sitaram Rane, proprietor of ex-servicemen and detective agency was arrested and sentenced to six months in civil prison on Friday, over non-payment of provident fund (PF) dues to employees of his organization.

Krishna Chaudhary, Regional PF Commissioner (Employees Provident Fund Organization) informed that the said defaulter was arrested over non-payment of PF dues amounting to Rs 2,58,000, of which proprietor had not paid a single penny even in the grace period allotted.
The EPFO has issued almost 440 certificates to defaulters and has assured necessary action, he said adding tha tthe EPFO recovery officers have the powers of issuing arrest warrants against defaulters.
Also informing that if the said person, after the prison term still doesn’t pay the dues, the EPFO will take a decision and have direct power to auction the said person’s property to recover the said dues.
