PANJIM: A meeting between the traders of the Panjim municipal market and the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) was held, on Tuesday.

Panjim MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate was also present at the meeting that saw several councillors present along with the Panjim Mayor and CCP Commissioner.
While the meeting held at the CCP office, was convened to resolve the long-pending issue of lease agreements, another meeting has been scheduled in May itself where another round of negotiations will be held.
Speaking to the media persons after the meeting, Atanasio gave an assurance that the “agreement with the market traders will be sorted and settled by the end of this month”.
He also pointed out that the civic body has not been earning any income from the market and that is why the CCP council is aiming at resolving this issue at the earliest.
When asked when the ban on the market would be lifted, he said that call would be taken once the government lifts the ongoing ban on markets and that CCP would follow the government’s instructions accordingly.
Atanasio also commented about the damage caused to the capital city due to the cyclone and noted that the authorities have been working on the problems that have risen and that the issues should hopefully be cleared by Wednesday.
He referred to trees being uprooted and damage to the houses and added that they are trying to help the affected people.
