Air India on Tuesday officially announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, marking a significant leadership shift for the Tata-owned carrier.
The airline confirmed that a committee has been formed to identify his successor in the coming months. According to the company, Wilson had conveyed his intention to step down to Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran as early as 2024 and had since focused on ensuring organisational stability and preparing the leadership team for a smooth transition.Air India said Wilson will continue in his role until a new CEO is appointed and assumes charge. Reflecting on his nearly four-year tenure, Wilson described the post-privatisation phase as a period of deep transformation for the airline. He highlighted the acquisition and successful merger of four airlines, a cultural shift from public-sector functioning to private-sector discipline, and a comprehensive renewal of leadership, workforce, and operational practices.Wilson said that during his term, Air India saw complete modernisation of its systems, the introduction of new onboard and ground products, elevated service standards, and a substantial fleet expansion with 100 additional aircraft. He added that the full interior refurbishment of legacy narrow-body aircraft is almost complete, while deliveries of new wide-body aircraft featuring custom-designed interiors are underway.Chairman N.
