PORVORIM: The Directorate of Archives and Archaeology will carry out a structural audit of all protected monuments in the State. This was conveyed by Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar who added that it will be done this year itself.
“There will also be a study on the vulnerability of monuments from fire mishaps along with the structural audit,” said Kavlekar in a response to Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco’s question.
He added that there are 51 notified monuments and sites maintained by the department, which includes forts, caves, rock engravings and water tanks and hence, there is less scope for fire. “Monuments which are in living tradition and owned by other authorities such as temple committees, church committees or mosque committees are given instructions to take care of structures and antiquities from all possible mishaps including fire,” he added.
Kvalekar, the Minister for Archives and Archaeology, said the dept has been conducting a study of all historical monuments of Goa and has also taken note of the studies done by academicians and researchers in this field.
