PANJIM: Tourism Director Menino D’Souza on Friday said that the department is taking all steps to clamp down on violations by water sports operators and efforts are made to ensure that tourists’ safety is not compromised.
The Department said that water sports operators, in most cases, follow the rules and regulations in order to conduct smooth and safe water sport activities. “There are some over ambitious and over adventurous lot who dare the rules and guidelines and have been brought to book from time to time,” he said in a statement issued on Friday.
It was pointed out that the department issues licences only after the operators obtain the licenses/NOC from Captain of Ports, National Institute of Water Sports etc. All water sports operators are trained and impressed upon to ensure that tourists availing of water sports activities adhere to safety norms and wear life jackets etc.
“Cases are booked for violations which are brought to our notice and will not hesitate to suspend the licenses if required,” he said.
The Department, however, agreed that all agencies involved in granting licenses as well as local bodies should work in tandem in monitoring the activities, identifying the violators and take strict action for putting an end to this menace.
