‘Amrit Kaal’, an opportunity to work together towards nation building: Sitharaman

PANJIM: Stating “Amrit Kaal”, is an opportunity for everyone to work together towards nation building, Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said as India embarks upon 2047 journey, when we celebrate India@100, the government should be able to “remove all dead wood, undergrowth and make way for bright environment that our future lives are proud of”.

To celebrate and commemorate the 75 years of Independence and as India enters into the “Amrit Kaal”, the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs had organised special events and programmes throughout the country from June 6-11, as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” iconic week celebrations. The week concluded with Sitharaman dedicating to the nation — “Dharohar” — the national museum of Customs and GST in Goa, on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Sitharaman said that today, as we celebrate 75 years of Independence and enter into ‘Amrit Kaal’, every department under my jurisdiction, is looking at the ‘Amrit Kaal’, where all of us will have to work together, for our children… for our youth…to create an environment which they can be very proud of.

“So when we talk about minimum government, it is only the people who are watching us and watching us in a discerning way,” she said.

“… and max governance is arrived at only when the people ask right question and we are able to remove all the dead woods, undergrowth and make way for bright ‘Amrit Kaal’ so that 2047, we all are able to see through our own sense or through books or through our children, that now India is such a country where our youth, children our future lives…all of them proud about it,” the minister said.

Sitharaman appealed every citizen, to see, whenever they get an opportunity, to reach out to their near once with atleast one aspect of the departments (like Customs, Income Tax, Revenue) functioning.

During the event, short films on evolution of GST, Union Budget Journey @75, Income Tax was launched.
