The Margao Municipality is set to get a new Chief Officer as the incumbent Yashwant Tawde the longest serving 8-time MMC Chief Officer will retire today. There were attempts made to extend the term of Tawde but there was no approval for that. All are now eagerly waiting to see who will replace him.
The MMC has several officers from the Government services for several years. However Tawde was the first Chief Officer of MMC who was ‘A’ grade officer of Additional Collector grade. Tawde has the record of holding MMC CO chair for the maximum number of times.
Tawde took charge on August 23, 2006 and was in service for 10 months till May 2, 2007. Narayan Sawant took charge of MMC CO as the 23rd Chief Officer and served from May 3, 2007 to August 10, 2007 which is hardly 2 months of service. Ahead of this Yashwant Tawde, N.D Agarwal, again Yashwant Tawde, Prasanna Acharya, Yashwant Tawde, Prasanna Acharya, J B Bhingui, Shrinet Kothwale, Sandhya Kamat, Deepali Naik, Yashwant Tawde, Narayan Sawant, IAS Officer Navin Laxman, Yashwant Tawde, Siddhivinayak Naik, Deepali Naik and the last posting Yashwant Tawde which is almost 8 times. Chief Officer Tawde in his years of service has seen many morchas and gheraos and he is known for never losing his temper and is always calm in whatever situation.
When contacted Tawde said “Not only MMC but if Government gives an extension to work in any department I will be happy to serve the state”.
