PONDA: The Goa Union of Anganwadi Workers (GUAW) President Devyani Tamse along with office-bearers in a notice to Director of Women and Child Development warned to go on an indefinite strike from December 23, at Azad Maidan, Panjim for enhancement in remuneration and allowances and better service conditions to be made applicable to all the workers.

“Around 2,500 workers, including teachers and helpers, are working under anganwadis in Goa. The notice has been served on December 7, giving 14 days time to fulfill their 11 demands including hike in salaries,” said Tamse.
She said anganwadi workers are facing injustice for several years despite they doing all work which the government employees are required to do.
“Our first demand is that anganwadi workers and helpers be treated at par with government employees and be given TA, DA and leave and other facilities to government employees.”
She further said their second demand is to enhance remuneration.
She said since there has been no raise in pay for last many years the Union demands that workers and helpers be paid increased pay as per flat raise as stated that employees with 0 to 10 years of service there should be 20 per cent raise.
Similarly , 11 and above years of service are to get 50 per cent raise. Beside this, yearly increment, seniority increment, pension scheme, retirement benefit, voluntary retirement scheme, promotion and continuity in service, equal pay for equal work, sick leave, absorption in government department is also demanded by them.
