SANGUEM: An ‘Indian Rite Mass’ based on Indian customs and a unique fishing competition were among the activities conducted at the Our Lady of Miracles Church, Sanguem, to mark Independence Day on Thursday.
In the morning, the Miracles Parish Youth of Sanguem organised an ‘Indian Rite Mass’ based on Indian Customs at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Sanguem at 11 am. Vicar General of Pilar Society Fr Hillary Fernandes was the main celebrant at the largely attended mass.
In the evening, the youth organised a fishing competition and 18 people took part in the two-hour competition at Sanguem River. Marcus Fernandes from Cotto won the first prize after he caught 18 fish, while Alwyn Fernandes was the runner-up.
Sanguem Parish Priest Fr Patrick Luis later distributed prizes to the winners, while Assistant Parish Priest Fr Mark Furtado guided the youth in the competition.
Meanwhile, at Our Lady of Piety Chapel, Uguem, Fr Pascoal, Fernandes unfurled the tricolour flag to mark Independence Day celebrations. A short cultural programme presented by the students of Our Lady of Piety Primary school was also held on the occasion.
