Anjuna deaths suspected to be due to spurious drugs

High demand for drugs during long monsoon weekends lead to shortage of synthetic drugs; Peddlers now manufacturing drugs like MDMA, LSD, Meow Meow, Devil’s Breath in Goa

ANJUNA: As the tourist season comes to a close, synthetic narcotics are moved out of Goa, while organic drugs like charas take their place and are sold at night parties along the Goan coast during the monsoons.
But, on long weekends and holidays, party organisers and drug peddlers across the North Goa belt, feel the shortage of synthetic drugs like cocaine, MDMA, ecstasy, LSD, which are in demand by the holiday crowd due to their easy consumption manner.
This demand has led to peddlers manufacturing some synthetic drugs, as has been done in the past, but with professional chemist.
Inquiries along the Northern coastal belt revealed that there are small labs where these drugs are made by foreign nationals, who come to Goa only to manufacture them and then leave the State.
Sources said the two deaths of tourists in Anjuna over a week back are reportedly due to the consumption of such locally made drugs.
A source from Vagator said that the locally made drugs were being sold at the high price ranging between Rs 3500 and 4500.
“These drugs were manufactured by professionals. It is a wrong combination by those who had attempted to manufacture it here can lead to it being resisted by the human body,” sources said.
Drugs like MDMA, LSD, Meow Meow, Devils Breath etc are now being manufactured in Goa in laboratories set up along the coast. With the help of chemists, drug lords in the State produce the drug that has a very high value in the market. This practice is new and has succeeded in giving law enforcing agencies the slip.
Currently only organic drugs like charas are available in the market while the synthetic drugs are yet to reach the Goan markets.
All drug including heroin, cocaine, MDMA, ecstasy, LSD, charas are transported after the season ends to other parts of the country where it is used as a party drugs in the night clubs and parties in the metros.
Incidents in the past and also now proved that a lot of drugs are being smuggled from Goa to neighbouring states.
