The villagers stated that the government departments have failed to act despite them lodging complaints. The villagers have urged the authorities to immediately stop the alleged illegal laying of electrical cables at Vagator.
Social worker Michael D’Souza said: “The hotelier has been laying electric cables by damaging water pipelines and roads. Heavy earth moving machinery has been uprooting the cables as well as water pipelines due to which people have no water for a couple of days. We have complained to the authorities as well as the police, but there is no relief to the villagers of Anjuna-Caisua. We urge the authorities to immediately stop the laying of electrical cables that is causing inconvenience to the locals.”
Balbin Malwankar, a local, said: “The Hotelier has been carrying out the works without the requisite permission from the panchayat. We do not understand as to how the Hoteliers and Builders are allowed to carry out illegal works in the village despite the objections from the villagers.”
“It is a general trend nowadays that while carrying out development works either by the private hoteliers or government contractors that water pipeline and telephone cables are uprooted by the wheel loaders, without caring for the suffering of the people of the area,” commented another local.
