Anjuna p’yat seizes cigarettes, gutka sold by illegal hawkers

MAPUSA: The Anjuna-Caisua village panchayat on Friday conducted a raid on hawkers in its jurisdiction and seized cigarettes and tobacco products being sold illegally. 

 The panchayat during its gram sabha held on November 6 resolved to act against the illegal hawkers selling cigarettes and tobacco products. Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar said that the action was initiated based on the resolution passed during the gram sabha. The Sarpanch said that people have been complaining about these products being sold openly in the village.  “We have seized the items and fines will be imposed. During the next body meeting, the fine amount will be decided and if the activities do not stop, then the drive will continue,” he added.
