MARGAO: The Arlem-Raia killer road was in the news once again on Wednesday after a scooter rammed against the dividers, leaving the rider and pillion rider injured, even as agitated locals set January 10 as the deadline to get the road repaired or face total closure of vehicular traffic.
The incident occurred this evening when the Suzuki scooter proceeding towards Raia hit the road divider and crashed against an oncoming Innova in the second lane. After the scooter hit the divider, the scooter landed on the Innova, damaging the wind screen and leaving the rider and pillion injured. Even as the two injured were rushed to the Hospicio hospital from where they were shifted to the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim, agitated residents blamed the authorities for utter neglect of the road despite dozens of accidents over the last three years.
Romao Jesus told the media that though the authorities partially cleared the structures in the acquired land, the road has not been widened till date. “The authorities rush to the killer road only when accidents occur,” Romao said.
