SANGUEM: Some anxiety has been created in the minds of general public in Sanguem due to the refusal of ten rupee coins by some hawkers who come to sell their wares at the Wednesday market in Sanguem.
It is pertinent to note here that many hawkers from other places come to Sanguem on every Wednesday to sell their wares which includes vegetables, flower pots, readymade garments, plastic items and other consumer durables. However many of them are reported to be refusing to accept the ten rupee coins given by the consumers for no valid reasons.
When this issue was brought to the notice of the councillor Sanjay Raikar, he too had to face similar fate. Some of the hawkers point blank refused to accept the ten rupee coins without assigning any reason for their refusal.
Sanjay Raikar later brought the issue to the notice of Sanguem Mamlatdar Laxmikant Desai who assured to take due action in the matter, but asked Raikar to file a written complaint.
Similar complaints of non-acceptance of ten rupee coins by some commuters on private busses plying on the Sanguem route are also brought to fore.
Conductors informed that on account of non-acceptance of ten rupee coins by hawkers, the commuters are also refusing to entertain the ten rupee coins since past few days. The citizens have urged the authorities to allay the fears caused in the minds of the general public due to non-acceptance of the ten rupee coins by the hawkers in the market.
