PANJIM: Apart from Portugal, the State government aims to bring back records and documents pertaining to Goa lying with the Maharashtra government and the Daman and Diu administration, which will help to put light on State’s pre-liberation history.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant reiterated that the State will make efforts to bring back the documents pertaining to Goa’s freedom struggle and other history from the Portugal.
“There are some documents with Maharashtra and we need to bring them back first. That will also help us. I think some documents will be with Daman and Diu and we need to bring those documents back too,” he said after inaugurating Archives Week Exhibition 2022.
“These documents will help Goans understand their past and also help us to preserve it,” Sawant added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of theArchives and Archaeology Department building and the danger posed to sensitive and historic archives.
Sawant directed Minister Subhash Phal Dessai to take immediate initiative to renovate the building or build a new premise and also to take up digitisation of documents.
Subhash Phal Dessai was also present on the occasion.
