App-based 2-wheeler service under govt radar

PANJIM: The Transport Department has swung into action against the illegal operations of app-based two-wheeler service — Uber Moto; hours after Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho ordered an inquiry.

An official said that the department had planted a decoy customer, to catch the operator red-handed illegally operating in the State.

“We have recorded the statement of the two-wheeler rider working for Uber Moto. We had laid a trap to ascertain the app-service is operating sans permission from the Transport Department. We will take action accordingly,” said an official.

Godinho, on Thursday had ordered an inquiry into the allegations levelled by Goa Forward Party working President Kiran Kandolkar.

The former BJP-MLA had alleged that application for commencing Uber Moto is pending but when any person uses the app, the operators approve of giving paid ride.

Sources said the department will re-examine the documents while the operator is also likely to be summoned for inquiry.
