Arambol villagers threaten rasta roko over water woes

PERNEM: Arambol villagers have threatened to block the road on November 27 to protest irregular water supply and to draw the attention of the PWD to their plight.
The road blockade would be led by former members of Arambol panchayat Dilip Vast and Tony D’Mello.
The villagers say that they are facing water shortage throughout the year and it becomes acute during the tourist season. “Despite repeated complaints to the PWD, the water problem has not been solved,” a villager said.
“This rasta roko agitation is to attract the attention of the PWD to resolve our water problem. We appeal to people to participate in the agitation,” D’Mello said.
“Frustrated with the PWD’s failure to solve the water problem, we are going to block the road on November 27,” former panch Vast said.
Vast claimed that there are two overhead water tanks in the village out of which only one tanks supplies water to most of the households. “But since the pipeline is many years old, people do not receive enough water for their daily household and commercial use,” he said.
To highlight the issue and draw the attention of the authorities to their plight, the villagers had several times led a morcha to the PWD office at Pernem. The panchayat also wrote several letters to PWD without any success.
