PANJIM: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Goa Unit, arrested a Superintending Archaeologist of Goa Circle for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a line producer. Soon after his arrest, the officer Ramesh Mulimani was admitted to hospital allegedly for treatment of ‘high blood pressure.’
CBI officials said Mumimani was caught red-handed with the cash which he had demanded from the complainant, whose name has been withheld by the CBI, “for releasing the security deposit amount and giving permission for shooting in future without any hindrance.” The CBI registered a case following a complaint and laid a trap on Wednesday.
The accused however complaint of restlessness after his arrest and was subsequently admitted to Goa Medical College for high blood pressure. He will be taken into custody and remanded soon after his discharge from the hospital, an officer informed.
Searches are being carried out at his residential premises and persons, known to him as well his office staffers, are being questioned.
The surroundings of Old Goa Churches and other adjoining areas come under the Archaeological Survey of India and as such, their permission is required to carry out any activity including movie or advertisement shootings.
