Areal without sarpanch for fifty days, locals angry

MARGAO: The villagers of Sao Jose de Areal are upset as 50 days have passed since the village has been without a sarpanch.

With the Salcete block development office yet to hold the elections for the post of sarpanch, the villagers have questioned the delay. This is the second case in Velim constituency as there was a similar instance in Sirlim- Dramapur where the BDO waited till just before the 60-day period was completed.
The locals are upset that the panchayat which had adjourned its last gram sabha failed to convene it again on the fixed date.
Former Sarpanch Julio Monteiro was voted out from office on July 21 in the midst of the drive against encroachments and scrap yards at the industrial estate.
