MARGAO: The Arlem junction has been inundated with sewage water over the last few days following blockage of sewage chambers of the main line.
Residents led by Camilo Barretto complained over the slow pace of work by the government departments in repairing the clogged line, saying sewage water has been posing a health hazard to residents and nuisance to motorists.
A PWD engineer looking after the sewerage line admitted that the underground line is choked with mud right at the junction adding that the blockage will be cleared once the sewerage manhole covered with hot mix coat is ascertained. “The contractor as well as our staff is engaged in locating the chamber. Once it is located, the blockage will be removed and the obstructions flushed out,” he said.
Pointing out that his staff was manhandled by some local persons on Saturday, the engineer said that he has obtained written permission from the District Collector to carry out the repair work.
Incidentally, Camilo Barretto said the local MLA should have intervened in the matter last week and brought relief to the beleaguered residents and motorists.
