“The steel ordered for the bridge has not yet arrived, the work which was supposed to be completed by October-end will be delayed by 15 to 20 days,” Calangute MLA Michael Lobo told the media recently.
The old bridge connecting Arpora to Baga was narrow, in bad condition due to which it was difficult for two vehicles to use it at the same time, he said.
Lobo said the new bridge will be 12 meters wide with steel fabrications standing on two columns. The estimate cost of this bridge is Rs 5 crore and will be built by GSIDC.
The old bridge has been closed for four months due to which locals are facing inconvenience. He said that as per the engineer the work of the on scheduled time.
After completion of the bridge, Lobo said there is another project planned of a promenade along Arpora Baga beach which will be 1.5 kilometres long.
Consultants LKS are ready with the plans and designs, he said adding that the estimated cost of this project is Rs 45 cr. Lobo said, “This project will give a different look to the Arpora-Baga village and help boost tourism.”
